Great Coffee… In North Curry’s beautiful conservation area

The Coffee Shop – is situated in an historic restored stable in the centre of the village. It is a community project run by volunteers and is entirely self-financing. Since it opened in May 2006, over £200,000 has been raised for charities nominated by the volunteers.

The menu features high-quality coffee and tea, a selection of fruit juices and soft drinks, a range of homemade cakes and light refreshments suitable for lunch or morning and afternoon snacks.

The Coffee Shop is a venue for exhibitions by local artists and craftspeople. There is a wide selection of second-hand books, arts and crafts, cards and jewellery for sale.

Fine walks along the river, moors and North Curry ridge

North Curry – is the first village in  West Somerset and Taunton to be designated as a conservation area, and has many listed houses and interesting public buildings. It also boasts a well-equipped playing field and sports ground.

Other notable features include the grade 1 listed Church of St Peter and St Paul – Cathedral of the Moors – which sits in a prominent position at the top of a steep escarpment overlooking the low-lying Somerset Levels, in central Queen Square stands the Victoria Monument, known locally as the Pepper Pot.

The village and surrounding farmland are crisscrossed with many well-signed public footpaths, from which to enjoy views of the beautiful countryside.

The Somerset Levels – North Curry lies on the edge of a spectacular area called the Levels and Moors, which has international status as one of the most important wetlands of its type in the world.

The levels are the finest remaining lowland wetland left in Britain and are internationally recognised. They have Special Protection Area status for the welfare of birdlife and are home to four RSPB reserves as well as several sites of Special Scientific Interest boasting a wide variety of animal and plant life.

The quiet and distinctive landscape is valued by those who visit as a place to relax and unwind. The area is packed with heritage and local traditional industries including withy (willow) growing, basket making and brewing.
